Before becoming a detective with the Maine State Police Criminal Investigation and Forensics Division, interested parties must first become a Maine State Trooper.
The requirements for becoming a trooper are as follows:
- Be at least 21 years old, or 20 years old if an applicant has completed 60 college credits
- Hold a valid Maine driver’s license

- Pass the oral board exam
